Photography is on the rise. Everything from phone apps to blogs to social networking; the opportunities to share the world through a lens are increasing every day. But did you know that, as of 2008, 42.8% of all professional photographers were female? The percentage increases to 60% when dealing with photographers under the age of 35. [source] With the rapid increase in female professional bloggers, one can only imagine how many times a camera has a woman behind it today.

While other companies offered quality camera bags they were lacking one element that would let them corner the female photography market: style. One comment I see often among female photographers: “I want a new bag, but I don’t want to look like I’m going backpacking across Europe.” If you are a blogger you know that you aren’t always taking photos out in nature; sometimes you’re at an evening event, performance or other occasion that required you to dress up a bit. Throwing a duffel-style bag over a dinner dress isn’t exactly the look I’m going for. But, I don’t want to sacrifice function either.

Jill-e sent me the Medium Black Leather Camera Bag from their Classic Collection. I immediately liked the visual aspects: classic black leather, silver fasteners and a stylish shape that would go with more than jeans and a t-shirt; but still left room for gear. If I carry my camera with me, I’m carrying more than one lens. I couldn’t wait to see what this bag could do. I wasn’t disappointed.

When I go out for the day or on a press trip – I need my camera, of course. But, I also need my laptop, my eReader, my cellphone …need I go on? I’m sure my readers understand what I mean. With other bags – they might hold my camera gear, but I still had to bring along a second bag for the rest of my gadgets. That makes travel difficult and more cumbersome. Fortunately, this isn’t a problem with a Jill-e bag.

Yes, you read that right. I have three lenses (one over-sized zoom), a full flash, strap, tripod, body AND my laptop – and there is still room for more. The free-form divider panels offer an unlimited amount of configurations so you can customize your bag to your exact needs. If I’m going on a day-long excursion or an overnight event I can get my entire collection of photo gear in this one bag. The bonus is that there is still room for several other items. Even with this bag packed as you see it, there is still room for a tablet, phone, wallet, and more.

This is a definite improvement on other bags I’ve owned that looked big from the outside, but offered much less on the inside. This bag doesn’t promise more than it can deliver, and with thick padded side panels – you know your gear is safe.

perfect for personal items such as credit cards, drivers license, etc.

Have an infant or toddler? There is plenty of room for extra diapers, bottles or snacks as well. It would also make an ideal carry-on bag for your next flight. This case is a true all-in-one. But Jill-e doesn’t stop with just the internal storage.

This bag also offers additional space with side and front snap closure pockets. These aren’t vanity pockets – they will hold a small notebook, cellphone, lens filters and more. But we’re not done yet…

The bag features a dual zipper top entry for gaining access to your gear when you only have one hand free. Once open, the top flap reveals a sectional net pocket for memory cards and batteries.

The bag is also equipped with the comforts you’ve come to love: Dual carrying handles; padded, adjustable shoulder strap, and small metal feet to protect the underside when set down on rough or dirty surfaces.

We also can’t forget the two additional pockets on the rear; one large enough for your laptop with a snap closure and another at the bottom with a zipper closure.

Pros:

  • Expansive, padded, internal compartment with customizable dividers holds as little or as much as you need.
  • Padded shoulder strap, easy snapping clasps and dual handle grip
  • one handed zipper opening
  • 9 total storage compartments
  • large enough for ALL of your tech gadgets (camera, laptop, eReader, tablet, phone and more)
  • Can double as a stylish diaper bag/camera bag
  • Fashionable without losing function
  • Real Leather – can be cleaned with a damp rag
  • Sturdy without being bulky
  • Easy to carry
Cons:
  • The only area I would like to see improved is the height of the metal legs on the underneath. When the bag is full, the center dips just enough to make the bottom touch the ground despite the legs.
Overall I give this bag an A+
From the style to the features, it offers me everything I need in both a camera bag and a gadget travel bag. I’m looking forward to donating my random laptop, camera and carry-all bags and using this Jill-e bag where ever I go and for whatever I need.
