Q2 Wi-Fi Internet Radio – Review

On those days where I have a major to-do list for the house I love to turn on some tunes to make the chores seem easier. I have very different tastes when it comes to music, so turning on the kitchen radio just doesn’t work for me. I need more than Top 40 US hits all day. I have a long list of music on my mp3 player, but with a toddler in the house (who gets into everything) I can’t risk wearing earphones. So what could I do to bring my unique music with me through the day?

The Q2 Wi-Fi Internet Radio

This Wi-Fi enabled radio is only 4″ x 4″ square and weighs next to nothing. It’s extremely easy to carry with you through the house, outside, travel or anywhere you have Wi-Fi access. You can program up to 4 channels on the Q2 at one time. Currently I have 80′s, 50′s, my favorite channel from my home town and (my favorite) a Japanese pop channel. So just how easy is it to use? Charge the cube via USB on your laptop or computer, turn it on with the power switch found on the back and enjoy your tunes. To change the channel you just turn the cube! Each side is labeled with a number (I, II, III, IIII). While the cube is turned on, flip the cube so that the channel number you want to listen to is facing up – the channel changes instantly. If you want to turn the volume down – tilt the unit forward. Not loud enough? Tilt it backwards until you reach the volume you want. If you get a phone call, or need to have quiet for a few minutes, just turn the Q2 so that it’s laying face down – now it’s muted and on standby!

Set Up

The only thing easier than using it is setting it up. The software works on both MAC and Windows systems. You plug the unit in with the included USB and the system install will walk you through the rest. Then you’ll have over 15,000 internet radio stations (both US and International) to select from; just drag and drop! Q2 will also be introducing a way to add new stations yourself in the future. It really is that easy. It took me less than 5 minutes to get completely set up and select my stations.

Power & Performance

It takes approximately 5 – 6 hours to charge IF the battery is completely dead. But, one charge will last you around 14 hours – plenty of time to enjoy! The sound was great – CD quality. And the volume adjustment is great: very sensitive so that you have complete control over it. I use mine most often in my home office, so I especially like the mute function. If one of my kids shouts to me I can instantly turn the music off and see what they need. Once things are taken care of I can tilt it back up and the station comes right back.

This radio is too cute. I love how portable it is, and that you can change channels just by turning it on its side. It would make a great gift for a high school grad to take off to college, or for a grandparent who has always been reluctant to use the internet– it would be a great way to show them how easy this kind of technology can be.
