When most people think of fall they think of dead leaves falling from the trees. While autumn leaves are beautiful, there are many amazingly bright flowers that also appear this time of year. Decorating with fall and Thanksgiving flowers can add color where the seasons may leave you otherwise lacking.
Use Symbols of the Season
Pumpkins always come to mind, but don’t stop with just the jack o’lantern. Hollow out a bright pumpkin shell to fill with contrasting Asters or Chrysanthemums. Add accents with reds and oranges – even add a few of those warm brown leaves that are, by now, filling your front lawn. Vines annoying you as they creep up the side of the house? Snatch them down and weave them between the flowers for a natural touch.
Add whimsy to your pre-winter decorating
Even smile-inspiring decorations can be added to your beautiful fall flowers for a fun, seasonal twist. Spray paint leaves to create abstract bats for a spooky touch on Halloween, or shop your local craft store for miniature wooden signs celebrating the fall festivities.
Once the holiday is over, the additions are easily removed so you can continue to enjoy your arrangement throughout autumn.
Celebrate the Harvest
Autumn is more than spooky costumes and creepy creatures; it’s also time to celebrate the harvest and bounty of the earth. Flowers not your thing? Try decorating with symbols of health and nature such as fall fruits, vegetables, acorns and pine cones.
Find bundles of wheat (both dried and synthetic) at craft stores and farmers markets in your area. Finish the collection with naturally woven ribbons or wrap the base of your arrangement in burlap and tie with twine for a country feel.
Simple is still beautiful
If, like many parents, you just don’t have the time to be running around town looking for ribbon and twine, a simple arrangement of bold color can be just what you need on your dining room table. Sunflowers are a fantastic choice to make a grand statement in very little time. Use a glass vase to make the yellow stand out even more against the table. If you need just a bit more color – try adding vegetable based food coloring to the water in a bright orange or green.
If you’re really strapped for time then you can also get these and many other beautiful fall flowers from Teleflora.
